DAVE LEVAC PUTS SPECIAL INTERESTS AHEAD
OF STANDING UP FOR FAMILIES IN BRANT

QUEEN’S PARK – Yesterday Brant Member of Provincial Parliament Dave Levac proved just how far he is prepared to go to curry favour from Dalton McGuinty.

Instead of using a rare Question Period opportunity to stand up for the Brant families who will be forced to pay more for gas, kids’ sports, haircuts and home heating fuel due to the Dalton Sales Tax (DST), he chose to shamelessly brag about the big businesses and special interest groups that supported the DST.

“Rather than speaking out on behalf of big business and well funded special interest groups Dave Levac should instead be speaking out on behalf of his constituents who stand to lose hundreds of dollars per year due to the DST,” said PC MPP Toby Barrett (Haldimand-Norfolk).  “He was elected to be Brant’s voice in Dalton McGuinty’s government.  It is sad that he has instead chosen to serve as Dalton McGuinty’s voice in Brant.”

During his Question Period performance, Mr. Levac bragged that “a group of businesses recently came together to support the government” in its DST tax proposal. While he admitted he has heard from constituents that “have concerns about the implementation of the HST and what it’s going to mean to them and their families and employees”, he derided the concerns of concerned Ontarians by saying they “are only telling half the story.”

“I’m sorry Mr. Levac, but it is not the big organizations or professional lobby groups that will be hurt the most by the DST,” Mr. Barrett concluded. “It is the hard working Ontario families who will be left struggling to pay their bills when Dalton McGuinty reaches into their pockets one more time. The next time Dalton McGuinty takes the muzzle off Mr. Levac, I hope he uses the opportunity to defend the people who have the most at stake.”
