Time for a public inquiry into eHealth scandal

Simcoe – Far too many questions still remain about the serious, and potentially criminal, abuses of taxpayer money that occurred with the McGuinty eHealth scandal. The Official Opposition has concluded that only an independent, impartial public inquiry will provide the answers Ontarians want and deserve.

“The Auditor General does not have the mandate or the resources necessary to answer many of the outstanding questions,” said Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett. “These are taxpayers’ dollars that have been squandered and people want to know where each and every one of their tax dollars has gone.”

The Auditor General’s report strongly suggests that there may have been deliberate collusion and bid-rigging at eHealth. Further, the Auditor General himself reported instances of obvious obstruction of his probe by officials within the McGuinty government.

“An Auditor’s report and a token resignation do not provide the closure the people of Ontario deserve. If it is proven there has been criminal activity, then we should get that money back,” Barrett concluded.
