It’s sad Ontario is now a ‘have-not’ province: Barrett

Queen’s Park - Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett is angered by the lack of remorse and regret the Ontario government has shown for steering the province into ‘have-not’ status
.
Barrett stood in the Ontario Legislature today asking why the government did not save for a rainy day in the good times and, despite the economic warnings, continued to spend like drunken sailors.

“It’s sad to hear of Canada’s new world order where Ontario is now a ‘have-not’ province while Alberta, Saskatchewan, B.C. and even Newfoundland now carry the province and offer Premier McGuinty a hand up,” Barrett said. “Here in Ontario we are one of Canada’s welfare cases.”

The local MPP reminded members of the Ontario Legislature that Dalton McGuinty has just announced a deficit of half a billion dollars and previously slapped taxpayers with the largest tax hike in the province’s history. Barrett also questioned why the Ontario government did not question cuts to equalization payments announced by the federal government a few months back, which has now cost Ontario almost $1 billion.

“The Premier now has the dubious distinction as the first Premier to steer Ontario into have-not status,” Barrett continued. “When will you accept responsibility of putting Ontario into have-not status? Will you not show any regret? Any remorse?”
