Barrett to host Symposium on Energy
Generation and Our Environment
Jarvis –MPP Toby Barrett is asking
residents to mark down June 19th on their calendar for an evening of information,
discussion and consultation regarding energy alternatives and their impact
on the area’s environment.
Barrett will host a symposium, dubbed
“Energy Generation and our Environment” on Tuesday, June 19
2007, 6:00PM to 10:00PM at the Jarvis Community Centre. Ontario Environment
Commissioner Gord Miller will deliver the keynote address.
"I look forward to meeting with
the people of Haldimand-Norfolk, to hear their ideas about the future
of energy and environment in their community," Commissioner Miller
stated.
To achieve balanced discussion, concerned
stakeholders from all sides of the debate are welcome. The only prerequisites
are being interested in energy generation and our environment, and a willingness
to respect differing options.
“The bottom line is area residents
must be provided with reliable information, and public consultations must
be held prior to any movement in this regard,” Barrett asserted.
“My position is clear – If Premier McGuinty wishes to approve
new energy projects at Nanticoke, he must first make the case to area
residents.
Those interested in attending, presenting
or setting up displays at the June 19th symposium or asked to contact
Toby Barrett’s office at 519-428-0446, or 1-800-903-8629.
