Education Minister steers clear of tough issues, locally
Nanticoke - Like Premier McGuinty, Ontario's
Education Minister Kathleen Wynne is steering clear of a tough issue facing
a school in Caledonia.
"I am sure that folks in Caledonia
would have welcomed Minister Wynne to talk about an incident involving
an AK-47 assault rifle that occurred beside Notre Dame School," said
Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant MPP Toby Barrett. "Instead the Minister prefers
easy photo-ops with a local candidate at a golf course instead of at a
school."
On May 30, 2007, MPP Barrett raised this
issue in the Ontario Legislature and asked: "An AK-47 assault rifle
right beside an elementary school in Caledonia: will Dalton McGuinty deal
with this or cover it up?"
"This information session
is just another example of how the current government turns a blind eye
instead of rolling up its sleeves to deal with tough situations,"
Barrett said. "Students and parents of Notre Dame have suffered a
great deal throughout the on-going land dispute always wondering if their
security would be compromised."
