Caledonia Lawn Bowlers are Ready for Another Season
Thanks to $12,700 OTF Grant
Caledonia – The members of the
Caledonia Lawn Bowling Club have access to a safe, high quality facility
for the sport of lawn bowling in Caledonia thanks to a $12,700 grant from
the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Toby Barrett, MPP for Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant,
joined OTF representative Colette Wilson in congratulating the Club members
at the plaque presentation ceremony.
“The Caledonia Lawn Bowling Club
has given area residents, including our local senior community, recreation
opportunities for close to a century now,” said MPP Barrett. “It’s
great to see Ontario giving something back to the Club through the Ontario
Trillium Foundation to ensure the safety of all participants.”
The OTF grant was used to renovate the
perimeter boards and plinth of the greens and to level the grounds adjacent
to the boards outside the greens. “As most of our members are seniors,
this will meet the need for a safer environment to bowl in,” said
Past President Glen Killins. “We are thankful for the Ontario Trillium
Foundation’s commitment to aiding small clubs in the community.”
Adjacent to the Edinburgh Square Heritage
& Cultural Centre, the Caledonia Lawn Bowling Club founded in 1915
continues to provide local and neighbouring residents with lawn bowling
at the recreational and competitive level. The Club is maintained and
operated solely by volunteers and provides an opportunity for physical
and social activities for all age groups in the community.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency
of the Ministry of Culture, receives funds from the government’s
charity casino initiative. The Foundation allocates grants to eligible
charitable and not-for-profit organizations in the arts and culture, environment,
human and social services and sports and recreation sectors. For more
