Norfolk residents will pay McGuinty’s health tax twice
Health tax should be scrapped outright: Barrett
Port Dover-MPP Toby Barrett today renewed
his call to scrap the health tax, after hearing that Norfolk Power customers
will be paying the illegal tax themselves, and then paying again for the
utility’s employees.
“The so-called 'health' tax represented
the largest tax increase in the history of Ontario, but to save face,
Premier McGuinty called it a ‘premium’,” Barrett said.
“By falsely labelling the health tax a premium, he has put local
taxpayers on the hook for employees at Norfolk Power.”
“This further reinforces the need
for truth in taxes,” Barrett continued. “A Premier can’t
hike taxes, and then run around the province disguising it as a ‘premium’.”
Barrett’s remarks echoed the comments
John Tory made yesterday in Ottawa, where the PC Leader again called for
the elimination of the punitive, regressive 'health' tax. All told, eleven
organizations around the province will be forced to repay employees for
this tax.
“A PC Government will eliminate
this tax and put this money back where it belongs - in the pockets of
taxpayers across the province,” Barrett concluded. “Under
Dalton McGuinty, people get to pay it twice.”
