Seniors need quality long-term care

Port Dover—In the wake of Canada’s 140th birthday, MPP Toby Barrett is calling on government to repay seniors that built this country by upgrading Ontario’s 35,000 below standard long-term care spaces.

“The bottom line is that seniors worked hard to build this country, and we need to show our gratitude,” Barrett said. “We can do this by creating new long-term care beds and build on the past success with Grandview, Edgewater and Parkview Meadows.”

MPP Barrett is calling on government to:

Enhance long-term care by bringing the 35,000 below-standard care spaces up to the highest level;
Eliminate three and four bed wards, and ensure that all long-term care residents have the dignity of an en-suite bathroom, as well as comfortable facilities to spend time with their families;
Ensure access to primary care for seniors;
Expand investment in home care services

“The current government promised to revolutionize long-term care in the province of Ontario,” Barrett continued. “But its flagship legislation did little more than to consolidate three old laws into one ‘old law’.”
