Where are
the promised 1,000 officers: Barrett
Dunnville –
The violence in Toronto is a good example of how easily things can get
out of hand when government does not make community safety a priority.
That according to
MPP Toby Barrett, who joins Ontario PC Leader John Tory and Community
Safety Critic Garfield Dunlop in demanding action on the Liberal’s
promise to put 1,000 new police officers in our communities.
“It’s the responsibility of government to ensure the protection
of citizens and keep things under control,” said Barrett. “This
government has promised 1,000 new police officers on the streets, at least
three different times – we are still waiting.”
Barrett’s comments
follow John Tory’s assertions that more officers help to give police
the resources they need to keep communities safe.
"We need these
officers both to enforce the law and help prevent violence by being involved
in community programs involving young people,” said Tory. “One
of the best deterrents to crime is the presence of a police officer in
the community."
