Unique website gives adult smokers a voice
Simcoe – Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant
MPP Toby Barrett believes that as long as tobacco is a legal product,
government should treat those who choose to smoke with fairness.
Barrett is referring
to a new website, mychoice.ca, that is “committed to restoring common
sense, balance and civility to the way Canada’s adult smokers are
treated by their federal, provincial and municipal politicians.”
The site, which is
non-profit, is funded by the Canadian Tobacco Manufacturer’s Council
and was launched yesterday.
“We know that
tobacco smokers do not have say in public policy,” Barrett said.
“As long as tobacco remains a legal product, I feel that smokers
should also have a voice in our democratic society.”
Mychoice.ca does not
promote or encourage smoking. It does provide information on cessation
programs, links to anti-smoking organizations and offers its full support
to combat youth smoking.
