Time
is right for a strategy on measurement: Barrett
Ontario’s residents
and businesses have once again been kept in the dark after the McGuinty
government failed to demonstrate leadership on daylight savings time this
week.
“Our economy
depends on streamlined cooperation with the United States,” said
Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant MPP Toby Barrett. “We need to continue to
remain harmonized with our major trading partner in the world.”
In the wake of the
American daylight savings time initiative, the McGuinty government responded
with an email address for input on the issue.
“After being
absolutely surprised on this topic, the government has decided to hide
behind an email address,” Barrett pointed out. “What is stopping
a couple of fanatics from setting up one hundred email addresses and skewing
the results?”
Toby Barrett has long
been calling on government to develop a comprehensive strategy for streamlining
daily transactions with the United States. “We need to examine the
harmonization of day to day units of measurement,” he said. “Adopting
similar measurement standards just makes it easier for all sides,”
he added.
