Line
up for your say on Ontario Spills Bill
Thursday afternoon
deadline for presenters to Committee on Bill 133 mess
Queen's Park - PC Environment
Critic, Toby Barrett, is encouraging those
concerned with the approach to industrial spills prevention inherent in
Bill
133 - the Spills Bill, to make their voices heard as the Legislative
Assembly Committee holds public hearings next week.
Those interested in making
an oral presentation have until Thursday the 5th
at 5:00pm to request to appear.
"This legislation could
spell the future direction for industrial spills
penalties in this province, and considering the lack of consultation that
went into it's creation, it's essential that those with concerns make
their
views known," said Barrett. "Over the last half year since this
bill was
first introduced I have worked in conjunction with many who are concerned
with the penalty-driven, reactive and constitutionally questionable nature
of the Spills Bill - it's now time to make these concerns clear at Committee
Hearings."
The hearings will take place
Wednesday May 11 and Thursday May 12. Those
wishing to submit a written presentation are requested to have them in
to
the Committee Clerk by 5 pm, on Thursday May 12th.
"I urge all those who
are concerned about this Minister's approach to
industrial spills to keep the pressure on," Barrett concluded.
Those interested can
contact the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly Committee
at (416) 325-3506.
