Consultation on ‘Spills Bill’ to be held, April 7,
8
Barrett upset that the meetings are by invite only
Simcoe – PC
Environment Critic Toby Barrett says that it is unfortunate consultation
on the Environmental Enforcement Statute Law Amendment Act, 2004, is being
handled by invitation only.
The legislation, referred
to as Bill 133 – the ‘Spills Bill’ -- amends the Environmental
Protection Act and the Ontario Water Resources Act regarding compliance
and enforcement provisions for each, including environmental penalties.
Hearings will be held April 7th and April 8th at the Courtyard Marriott
at 475 Yonge Street in Toronto. Time of the hearings is unknown at time
of writing.
“I think that
consultation on any piece of legislation is vital,” Barrett said.
“However, in order to have fair and transparent hearings, then all
stakeholders must be advised of the hearings – not just friends
of the government.”
Barrett believes that
those stakeholders who have not been invited should register regardless.
Registration forms can be obtained by calling Barrett’s office at:
519-428-0446. All forms must be completed and sent in by March 31, 2005.
