Barrett questions tuition hike during strike
Says McGuinty is playing one side against the other

Queen’s Park— MPP Toby Barrett spoke out against the McGuinty government’s fee-hike and strike crisis, today at Queen’s Park.

“What was he thinking,” an exasperated Barrett asked.  “Mr. McGuinty has to be out of touch to introduce a tuition hike on the second day of a province-wide college teacher strike.”

“If you connect the dots, it’s easy to see McGuinty’s agenda,” Barrett continued.  “By announcing this tuition hike on day two of the strike, he is compounding the stress on our community college students.”

This week’s education crisis means that tuition in Ontario will be rising by approximately five percent, and 150 000 community college students face the possibility of losing the rest of their school year.

“Regrettably, our college students are being hit from two sides,” Barrett concluded.
