Barrett presents
petitions against Ontario’s spineless delisting of chiropractic
services
Queen’s Park
– Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant MPP Toby Barrett has taken the voice of
his constituents, who depend upon chiropractors for a better quality of
life, to Queen’s Park.
“I now have
close to 1,000 names and 333 letters from people concerned about the delisting
of chiropractic services,” Barrett said as he rose in the Ontario
Legislature with a package presented to him by Dr. Brunarski of Simcoe.
The body of the petition
states that the “elimination of OHIP coverage will mean that many
of the 1.2 million patients who use chiropractic will no longer be able
to access the health care they need.
“Elimination
of OHIP coverage is expected to save $93 million in expenditures on chiropractic
treatment at a cost of government of over $200 million in other health
care costs”.
The petitions and
letters Barrett presented called on the current Liberal government to
reverse its decision and maintain OHIP coverage for chiropractic services,
in the best interests of the public, patients, the health care system,
government and the province.
The week prior saw
Barrett rise in the Ontario Legislature to present names of constituents
who opposed the delisting of optometric services.
“To think that
the decision to delist key health care services was done without public
consultation is quite insulting,” Barrett said. “This is not
the type of change the people of Ontario voted for last October.”
