Barrett invites Municipal Affairs Minister to compensation meeting
Meeting will take place April 1 in Re-Max room at Caledonia Arena
Queen’s Park—During parliamentary debate this past Tuesday, MPP Toby Barrett invited Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, John Gerretsen, to Sunday’s upcoming compensation meeting in Caledonia.
“It was Minister Gerretsen who promised to compensate Caledonia homeowners affected by the occupation,” Barrett said to the Ontario Legislature during heckling from the Minister.
The Minister claimed that Caledonia residents had already received their cheques – “They got their cheques,” he said – despite the fact that only eight days had passed since the program had been announced.
“The minister has just interjected that people got their cheques this week. In fact, Minister, there’s a meeting this Sunday night, April 1,” Barrett replied. “I would invite you to come to that meeting. They do want to discuss those cheques that were announced.”
The Caledonia compensation meeting will take place from 7 to 9 PM, on Sunday April 1, 2007 in the Re-Max room at the Caledonia arena.
“The purpose of the meeting is to bind the community together,” Barrett said. “We’ve got a choice – we can hang together, or we can hang alone.”
