1,400 names now on Edwards Landfill petition

Cayuga -- Momentum continues to mount on the Edwards Landfill front – as of today over 1,400 names have been submitted on petitions to MPP Toby Barrett’s office.

“For the past few weeks I have been registering the concerns of Haldimand area residents in the Ontario Legislature through petitions,” Barrett said. “It is obvious by the number of petitions and the number of names that the people of Cayuga and surrounding area are serious about stopping this landfill – they are organized and they are doing a great deal of work in attempt to get the Environment Minister’s attention.”

Barrett will be taking more petitions to Queen’s Park on Monday and will read them into the proceedings and affix his name to them.

On October 7, 2004, MPP Barrett wrote to Ontario Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky asking her to open another 30-day consultation period so that the taxpayers of Cayuga and area can have an opportunity to make submissions to the Environmental Bill of Rights and have their voices heard. To date, MPP Barrett has not received a response from the Minister’s office.
